Health Promotion Officer Level 3

Health Promotion Officer is a Community Health Worker whose main focus is no primary healthcare, with health promotion as a vital aspect.

The HPO plays a pre-emptive role in the assessment and identification of health needs as well as to intervene in primary healthcare activities

Duties of Health Promotion Officer: 

  • Provide basic nursing care: treat simple diseases, injuries and wounds.
  • Make referrals for various health problems to appropriate levels of health services.
  • Promote TB Infection control.
  • Take temperature, BP, pulse and respiration.
  • Check Sexual Transmitted Infections, teach and refer for treatment.
  • Identify pregnant mothers, mothers who have given birth and their babies and refer for treatment i.e. HIV/AIDS testing and counseling.
  • Identify drugs and substance abusers and refer them to rehabilitation centers.
  • Teach people about dangers of drug and substance abuse.
  • Teach people about cleanliness of in-house, environment and water.
  • Teach about woman, men and children's health.

Durations: 12 Months (Theory and practical's) 

Minimum entry requirement: from grade 10 

Home Based Care

Home Based Care duties: 

  • Work at old age facilities or at home.
  • Take care of old people and nursing them..

Security A, B, C, A & E

Security duties:

  • Work at any facility that needs guards.

Firearm Training

  • Handling, Pull trigger.
  • Shotgun, handgun, ruffle

First Aid Level 1,2, 3, HIRA & OHS

Duties for First Aid: 

  • In case of emergency, you will work under supervision of paramedics.
  • Assist patience while you are still waiting for ambulance.
  • You can work as a security officer.

Chemical Handling

  • Pest control & HIRA

First Aid, HIRA, OHS & Basic Fire Fighting
